EEOC re-assigns more investigations to other offices/states in 2024

Summary

The EEOC has been short-staffed for years. Investigations are back-logged. Employees should be careful about requesting NORTS letters before the EEOC has had 6 months to investigate a charge. Everyone should anticipate re-assignment of charges to other states’ EEOC offices or state human rights agencies which have work-sharing agreements to investigate charges for the EEOC. Careful drafting of charges is critical. Possibly more important is consulting with skilled employment lawyers unless an adversely affected party is close to missing a 300-day filing deadline in which case they must file or forever waive a federal court lawsuit.
